rpga questions

OK I've been to their website but still have some questions about the rpga (yes I'm stupid). I live in an area that makes it hard to travel to Cons. So the questions is "Why would I join the RPGA and what is the benifit of running a living campaign from my basement?" I guess what i wanna know is why our gaming group would want to join the rpga?

Even in a limited local area, the RPGA community can be significant. If you like the idea of meeting gamers in a controlled gaming environment or of being able to interact (in a limited fashion) with a large world of characters, the RPGA living campaigns provide a venue for that. They also provide free modules.

Another reason you might want to consider the living campaigns is if you're likely to be moving around a lot or have trouble maintaining a stable gaming group. (Students often have such difficulties for instance). The living campaigns allow you to continue playing the same characters if you move from California to British Columbia and then relocate to Australia.

Also, you can get involved in developing world-wide campaigns, especially with living greyhawk. Each country/state is attached to regions for this living campaign, and all the background material is done by locals from that region.

Check out the Perrenland website (Australia's region)

(unless they now charge for it.)

The modules are still free, though Polyhedron is part of Dungeon Magazine now.

As for the benefits of the RPGA the main reason I'm active is for participation in the "Living" campaigns - basically shared world campaigns that you create a character in and use it any time you play, anywhere, in RPGA sanctioned events.

Even if you don't go to cons, you can still do RPGA events. You can order and run events as "home play", or organize "Game Days". My gaming group does both. From a player's perspective there is no difference. A module played as a "home play" event counts in the same fashion for your character as one played at a Game Day or at a convention.
