I'm sure that most of everything has been connected to murders at one point or another. Problems only arise when the subject is widely misunderstood, like RPGs. Nothing to worry about, IMO. Never kept me from being open about playing RPGs. I've even mentioned it as a hobby in a job interview (otherwise the hobbies list would've been almost too short). I got the job, and it's come up a couple of times in coffee break talks - people generally don't know what it is, but do not think anything bad about it either. I'm happy to explain it, or just crack a joke or two about it if people aren't genuinely interested. Thats all there is to it - disregard BS issues like the news above, and explain the truth if situation warrants. I'm always more interested about other aspects of crimes like this. Probably the satan worshipping was a more important aspect in the situation than the Vampire RPG. Even the fact that girl had 'lost' in an RPG underlines misunderstanding in the case. Or the more famous suicide case where D&D was blamed - ignoring the fact that the parents didn't know what their child was doing, had a loaded gun at home and still after the case didn't bother to find out what D&D was about. But I digress ..
