Rules on movement

How do you guys handle changing modes of movement? For example, someone runs 30 ft, has sandals of spiderclimb so has 20ft climbing. It's 20 feet from her to the target, and she's on a roof ten feet up. Could she reach the target in a move action? It would be a climb down 10 ft, then 20 feet running over.

Jump distances count as part of normal movement. Character jumps from ceiling to the floor (10'), and then runs forwards 20' to the target and has a standard action to attack the target.

Instead, let's assume your question was moving horizontally on a wall using spiderclimb 10' to avoid a pit, then needing to get 20' further ... 10' of spiderclimb is half the move action, at 30' movement rate, that leaves 15' left for moving up to the target. That puts you 5' from the target, so you can take your standard action to attack.

To answer the question, I would divide the move action up into the component fractions and figure out how far they get in each.

Yep, I would also do it in proportions. That is, in your example, it would not be possible.

You could move 15' and climb 10' (both using a half move), for example.
