children of the spider come... round 2(con't) Eusebius moves around the horses and through the brush to reach the spider. His spiked chain bounces off the spider's thick carapace. Banion (npced) throws another mindblade. It hits in a shower of blood, barely missing the creature's big, multifaceted eye. From the South, the source of the quieter sounds becomes obvious, as nigh a dozen smaller spiders rush out of the woods, along the web or through the bushes. These range from halfling to man size, dangerous, but nothing like the mom. Round 3 "My mother's socks!" shouts Reinert, who turns his attention to the new threat, about to leap onto his horses. He releases a shaft from his heavy crossbow, which misses and imbeds in a tree. Beamer keeps his eyes on the prize, and sends his magic missiles into the biggest threat. His missiles sizzle effectively. Ogrin dismounts, and slips to into the brush, trying to flank the monster. He comes out and sinks his blade in deep. It is Rasereit that gets the glory, however. Taking his stand directly in front of the monster's face, he slams his axe into it again and again, with startling speed and force. He splits it's hard shell, and splatters its soft inside all over himself, his mount, and the surrounding trees. With an odd squack, the enormous creature quakes, and collapses into a mountain of steaming, putrid gunk. Combat notes & Initiative: Reinert (bless & haste) Beamer (bless & haste) Ogrin (bless & haste) Rasereit (bless & haste) (-21 hps, poisoned?) Rasereit's horse (-6 hps) big spider (dead) Eusebius (mage armor, bless & haste) <-- Banion (bless & haste) small (6) & medium (3)spiders
