Sacaling monsters, scaling XP?

Another newbie question. And yes, there will probably be a lot of these from me!

So, I'm looking at leveling up some of the monsters in the MM based on the info in the DMG. By adding +1 to defenses etc.. But, when making the monsters a higher level, does that have an effect on their XP level? I can't find any info regarding this in the DMG and I'd like to make the XP relevant to the PC's if I can.

It would make sense that, for example, a monster that WAS a level 1 minion worth 33xp would then be worth MORE XP as a level 2 minion.

If that makes sense.

Yes. If you scale a monster up a level, they're worth the XP of a monster that level. A first level monster (100 xp) scaled up to level 2 would now be worth 125 xp.
