I see each season of Stranger Things as invoking a movie from the period.

Season 1 is Alien. Very moody and suspenseful.

Season 2. Aliens. Still plenty of suspense, but also action. Invokes Aliens. (complete with Paul Reiser and a scene with “marines” using motion detectors to track the incoming monsters!)

Season 3. Red Dawn. Mostly just silly. But fun moments.

I am sort of disappointed we won't get the cute goth-girl version of Death, but I think their choice will still work well.

I dunno, she's pretty darn cute.
