Sarcophagus of Resurresction?

I would ask how easilly accessible is it?

For example if the local church has a rod of resurrection, how is that different than a sarcophagus? They still have control of it.

Is it attached to a specific Diety? Or a magical device not attached to any diety?

Now if its an item found in a campaign I would say ouch, unless like a staff it has charges. Or maybe rathter than charges it takes a fuel (gold or similar valuable) to work the magics. Basically a sacrifice to the god that powers it.

I would think about adding some hinderences to it, similar to the show, where if you used it when fully healed or too much, you would get addicated, but thats going down another avenue.

Don't know how accessible it would be. Although, there would probably be only one in existence. I believe the Stargate version powers off naquadah and requires that the user have a symbiote. Hmmm...

I'm not familiar with Stargate. How would this Sarcophagus thingy work?

Does it work instantaneously? Or does it take days/weeks/months for someone to come back to life?

Basically you lie in the thing for a few hours and recieve the benefits of a Raise Dead* (with no associated level loss) and a Heal.

Works just fine on humans with or without a goa'uld symbiote.

The naquadah power source lasts virtually forever.

Repeated use drags the users alignment towards CN then to CE. Repeated use also leads to withdrawl if you stop.

*Should be modeled on Raise Dead as it requires a mostly intact and fresh corpse.

Depends on whether you are looking at the item from the movie or the series version of the Sarcophagus, but I would use Raise Dead with no level loss and a removal of the rider about "not if killed by death magic".

I'd say getting your brains scrambled by one of the hand-devices that the System Lords wear would be equivalent to a Finger of Death. :)

As long as our heroes have to supply the material component of the spell and it is stationary, it shouldn't be a problem.
As an added bonus, a turn/contol undead use for the level of the one being raised must be done.
Failure of the roll means loss of the material component.
At least that's how I do it with the one in my campaign.

If the Players ever get around to finding it.

More later,

As I recall, the Stargate sarcophagus has addictive properties - [nerdygeek Mode] when Baal was torturing O'Neill to death then reviving him ad infinitum, Jack had withdrawal sysmptoms after his rescue [/nerdygeek Mode].

My major concern would be the cost.
Would the character still lose a level or 2 CON or something else?
