Saturday Morning Spiderman

By the looks of it, no, we're not getting a good series. Looks like it's aimed at young children.

I kinda liked the most recent MTV version. Other than that, yeah, Spidey hasn't faired too well on TV.

the series on Fox had a good long run and was pretty faithful to the source material. Too bad they turned into the Counter-Earth Ultra-Spider-Man thing.

I watched it this morning. I thought it was pretty good; a bit better than The Batman and much better than Legion of Super Heroes IMO. The animation is very smooth and exciting, the backgrounds are nicely detailed (not too many generic skyscrapers and strangely deserted streets), the character designs are interesting (for the most part), the voice acting and dialogue are good, and the stories are well-done.

They seem to be familiar with the various characters from Spidey's history (I loved Hammerhead showing up), though it does seem strange that [sblock] Eddie Brock, Peter, and Gwen Stacey all work in Dr. Conner's lab, which is also where Electro gets his powers.[/sblock] While that did seem kind of convenient, it is a decent change-up from the standard story and will allow them to foreshadow things nicely and build up some history between the characters.

As far as it being aimed at a very young audience, I would say it is geared toward the same age range as Avatar, The Batman, or Legion of Super Heroes. It certainly isn't going for the same audience as Barney or Dora the Explorer. Perhaps a step older than Teen Titans and the new Transformers and a step younger than Justice League.

That's a whole 'nother series. The first animated series that FOX aired was good. I think it was a good two or three years before they aired the counter-Earth series.

I thought the first episode was pretty good. Unfortunately, I didn't know they were airing two in a row when I set my Tivo, so I missed the second one. I liked it much better than The Batman and Legion.

BTW, is it just me or did the Vulture in his business suit look like Ivan, one of the villains from Giant Robo?

EDIT: The pic doesn't have the best angle, but I couldn't find a better one.

I got caught by that too, but luckily I was up and about at the time and it was on two different channels here at different times. The second Ep featured the origin of -- and subsequent battle against -- Electro, plus some more development of the Dr. Connors/Lizard plotline foreshadowing.

I watched both episodes this weekend. It wasnt bad and I liked some of the changes they've made. I'm glad too see he has mechanical shooters instead of organic. I also like how they have kept Peters penchant for creating his own villians (i.e. Electro). It has a lot of potential and I hope they keep it up. I think this is a Spiderman I can get behind.
