[Sc&Sp] Pantheon & theogony

First Post
Hi all,

This is the pantheon I've come up with for my homebrew campaign, which I've entitled (I admit, perhaps it's cheesy) Scarp and Spire. I could use some suggestions for a death god or goddess, or if you think I've missed a type of deity that perhaps should be in there, I'd welcome suggestions. (As well as general comments... some of the gods are missing domains) The domains are somewhat irrelevant to my campaign because all of the gods have stopped communicating with their worshippers, so there are no divine spellcasters, but they help define the gods.

Some of these domains and gods come from AEG's Mercenaries. I forget offhand which domains do, but I'll mark the deities with an [M]. Some of the gods' areas of influence don't have domains that I know of. (Is there a domain of alcohol? or agriculture?) )

Theogony (origin of the gods):

The true origin of the gods is uncertain. Some claim that there was a first god named Dalyahal who created other gods for company because he was alone. Others say that he split himself into the elder gods for that reason, or that he never existed, and that the elder gods have always been.

The elder gods are three in number - a sister and two brothers.

Metra - earth goddess. Domains of Nature, Plant, agriculture
Thyeste - the god of the secret fire - inspiration, creation, and magic. Domains of Creation, Fire, and Magic.
Aeviri - god of sea and sky. Domains of Storm, Weather, and Sea (or Water)

Aeviri delighted in his domains, and spent his time apart from his siblings. Metra and Thyeste, however, looked over the land and saw that it was empty. Deciding to populate the world with beings that could think, Metra created the elves, and Thyeste the dwarves.

Unfortunately when elves and dwarves first met, they recoiled in horror at the sight of other people different from themselves. Before Metra and Thyeste could prevent it, the elves and dwarves began to fight with what primitive tools they had created for themselves. Much to the gods' surprise, from this conflict sprang two new gods - Idarkos and [insert name of deity of death here :) ]

Idarkos - god of warfare and victory. Domains of War, Hunting, and Victory.

Metra and Thyeste calmed the elves and dwarves, and spoke with Idarkos, forbidding him from interfering with the two races. Idarkos took himself elsewhere and created a third race which would delight in battle and honour him. Thus were the first humans born.

Meanwhile the spontaneous creation of these new deities inspired Metra and Thyeste to create offspring of their own, just as the elves and dwarves did. Joining together in marriage, they produced four children:

Evadne[M] - goddess of knowledge and secrets. (Domains of Knowledge, Secrets, Seeking]
Shenasse[partly M] - goddess of Healing, Solace, and Love
Raxos - god of alcohol, madness, and Divination
Aldoin[M] - god of Travel, Protection, and Luck

Some say that Raxos was their last-born and that, seeing his madness, they stopped having any children. Others claim that they had decided in advance to have four children, and that Raxos was not born mad.

Calling the other gods to them to see their children, the gods were reconciled with each other. Idarkos allowed Thyeste to invest in humans a great deal of the spark of creation, making them somewhat less violent, and in exchange Idarkos' domain was allowed to extend to all races.

The young gods grew swiftly. Young Evadne petitioned her parents to be allowed to create a race of her own, who would delight in the knowledge that pleased her. With their guidance, Evadne created the gnomes.

Those who say that Raxos was not born mad state that the creation of the gnomes drove him mad with jealousy. All agree that in a fit, Raxos raged over the earth. Mountains rose and fell, volcanos and earthquakes shook the land, and strange beasts were spawned out of nothing. The mile-high cliff known as the Scarp is one remnant of Raxos' rage. In his fit, Raxos created halflings out of humans, but also many races of evil disposition.

When the young gods reached maturity, Idarkos petitioned for and won the hand of Evadne, while Shenasse charmed the heart of the aloof Aeviri, and they too were married. Neither couple, however, had any children.

There are those who deny the pantheon. Among them are the Almarans, who worship the four-aspected god Zataros. Each aspect of the god reflects a different age (the Seeker - youth, the Ruler - adult, the Sage - elder, the Creator and Destroyer - death)

Zataros the Seeker: Travel, Ambition, ?
Zataros the Ruler: War, Rulership, Law
Zataros the Sage - Magic, Secrets, Labyrinth
Zataros the Creator and Destroyer: Healing, Creation, Death

Some people who worship the pantheon identify Zataros with Dalyahal.

Finally, there are a very few who secretly worship a being or deity they call The Eater of Magic. Knowledge of the Eater outside of the cult is rare and mostly confined to very old texts which refer to a conflict between the Eater and the gods. Worshippers of the Eater believe that their god was trapped or weakened by the pantheon, and that by sacrificing a sufficient (but vast) amount of magic to their god, they will strengthen him and bring about his return to the world, at which time they will be justly rewarded, and all others punished.

The Eater of Magic - Anti-Magic, Weakness, Corruption

(It may be that the gods and the Eater are all in an alternate-dimensional space, locked in a struggle or frozen in time, or that the gods did in fact imprison the Eater and they are otherwise occupied. Or that their interference with the world is what created the Eater and gave him strength, so that now they forbid themselves from meddling in the affairs of mortals.)
