I am putting a sage of the Phylactric Vault togather. he is a planer traveler and member of the Mercane race. Do any of you felow SL / DM's have any suggestions. his spectialy is planer geography. the PC's hope to use him as a tool to help them get back to FR, but I have already decided that he can't help them. :cool:

If he is a planar traveller, why cant he help them?

What is the cosmology you are using? (Motp or Planescape, or neither)

Are you looking for character ideas here?

he can't help them because they have no reference point and he has not been to faerun. they know cities. he would need to know constalitations or the name of the plane and they don't have that information.

I'm looking for skills and feats which are above the requirements of his PrC. to flush him out.
 

Well if I read the book correctly, he'd have to be able to cast spells from the planar geography list. So he'll need those spells, (detect magic, mage hand, detect (insert alignment), Protection from (alignment),Dolomar's Mapping, rope trick and, blink

Skill focus: Knowledge (the Planes), And Spell Mastery in one of the aforementioned spells.

Does that help San?

I have both books so I'm not really concerned about the prerecs for the class (those are a given) but as I have never had to flush out an extra planer (non Tiefling, Aasamir, or Genasi) I was looking to fill the extra skills and feats with stuff that is more alien or exotic (rather then the power combonations that I would usually use) The real kicker is that this guy could probably help them with the answers and the way that they seek if they had the answers to the questions he would have to ask to determin where they are from, and of course the incentive nessicary to motivate him to act on their behalf.

Are my questions REALLY that anoying?:D

But if you're wondering what other feats/skills he could have. Perhaps specialize in different areas of the planes. Or even have a mephit familiar who is almost as smart as he is. Which means they could argue alot but the Mercane would usually be right. ;) Skill wise perhaps ranks in Diplomacy as well as ranks in knowledge religion and local lore as well. Oh perhaps he has collected an ancient Illithid artifact that react strangely in the presence of Slacerian relics. (Say like it used to read Illithid langauge but now it communicates to a Slacerian Muse in a very fast paced approach.)

Howse that for some ideas?

I like the famaliar idea. he displayed his captive ethereal maraured at the mage fair! ;)
 

Glad you do. This way he's got some one else to annoy. :) Yeah Religion. Course he knows the Scarred Land religion but he's also hear of a panethon of gods with names like "Zeus" and "Hera" ;)
