[Scarred Lands; semi-poll] The Next Big Titan

First, a disclaimer. Though I am a writer for the Scarred Lands setting, I am not posting this in any official capacity. It's purely my own curiosity.

Now that that's out of the way...

To date, there's been something of an emphasis on Mormo as--if I may use the term--something of a "main" villain. She is, in a way, the focus of the Serpent Amphora Cycle (which is supposed to be pretty good, you should go buy it ;)), many of the adversarial organizations are made up of her druids, and so forth.

Obviously, not every adventure or story set in the Scarred Lands has to focus on the titans at all. There are plenty of other villains available. Still, if you had your way, if there was going to be another module or series of modules in which a titan or its servants were the main villains, which titan would you choose? And why?

Mesmo. I've used some of the variant magic systems to explain them as Mesmo's children. The Magic of Thea for example and the Wheel of Time with the madness ratings.

In addition, the Glutton. There is a PrC in Librum Equitis I, the Corpulent, that I have in the background that serves this creatures.

Mormo? Outside of the adventures, which have really come out too slow for my liking, I haven't used her at all.

*slight correction* It's Mesos. No Mesmo. Don't worry Joe I got the same problem for a while.

Personally I'd think Thulkas could be fun or Hrinnruk would be my choice. Gaurak's fun but I like to see more of those two first.

Lethene is my choice for favorite titan. (Mainly cause she's like an immoral version of Enkili. ;) )

Btw Joe, they ARE making Fatlings a template. So be afraid. ;)

Mouse, I don't have an answer to your question posted, but I DO want to take this time to say this:

[So far] the Serpent Amphora cycle is *a m a z i n g* !!!

It is really, really epic in scope, and in many ways, mirrors the sort of legendary, epic quest as that in The Lord of the Rings (while not being a rip-off either). It is incredibly well written, well thought out and a FUN read (how many modules are actually fun to read?).

Its adventures like these that make me feel very insecure about my own adventure-writing ability :)

Wow. *Beams* Thanks. That really means a lot.

To give credit where it's due, the basic story itself is all Joe's, and the execution of the unique setup in the last chapter of Serpent and Scepter is all Colin.

But I'll happily take credit for my characters and my portions of the writing itself. ;)

next titan

mesos or Garuk the glutton. I introduced a fatling as the kingpin of the Melaid thieves guild in my game. (he REALLY creaped out the rogue)

Gulaben (sp?), I would like to see PCs try to prevent any of her/his followers from releasing her/him and then finding that Gulaben actually prefers the Layer of the Abyss he/she is on to Scarn.
Wouldnt that be a bummer :)

love questions like this

A complex answer to a simple question:
(every one of the titans is pretty cool and worthy of further developement.... but for the sake of conversation)

If you're looking for cool then Mesos: he's different from most of the other titans in that he was (at least in my reading) an orderly, thoughtful god-like-entity. His designs can have a level of complexity that most of the other titans don't. A trait he shares with Mormo....

In addition to being the most powerful of the titans he is also
1. reputed to have predicted his own demise
2. a firmament of a lot of people's power.... most every character uses magical items or depends upon Arcane spells; why the aquisition of power itself (in the D&D sense of the world with getting special powers, new spells and cool items) is largely the assimilation of things which are effectively pieces of his corpse.... Anything which effects the Titan also effects the crux of a lot of people's powers.*
3. His was the most recent Epoch, and the most civilized (in terms of advancement). So lots of possibilities for lost ruins and hidden artifacts.
It would be very interesting if Mesos had actually planned the divine war as some sort of experiement (or even if some group believed it).

And my Dark Horse cantidate.
If you're going for weird, neat & morally ambigous then definitely Golthain.
Punished by everybody, pushed to kill himself, an absurdly tragic figure that nobody cared about or cares about now. Precisely the sort of thing that allows for an adventure giving the PCs the chance to (in some small way) repay Golthain for his sacrifices.

* = If you play with standard rules then even a monk, who supposedly gains some of his powers from some version of insight into themselves is actually taping into Mesos' spirit to power many of their abilities (fast movement above 60, etc).
Everyone who's anyone from Virduk to the Jack of Shadows draws a lot of power from Mesos' energy field.

I don't have my Gazeteer to SL on me, but I would say I'd like to see the Glutton, or Mesos.

The Glutton strikes as just Kick Ass. One adventure I *know* I would do if I got the chance was do an adventure where one of his teeth is corrupting the area around it.

And Mesos. Just... He's COOL. The father of Magic. Imagine what sort've concepts you could have flowing around that. I mean, I've seen the Slitheren born of Mesos, and they are SERIOUSLY cool. :D
