Scarred Lands...Very Impressed

Upon recommendations from this Board I decided to pick up the Scarred Lands Gazeteer, to get the flavor of the world. I am very impressed and am seriously thinking about shifting my campaign to this new world. It has a great dark, classical mythological feel to the world.

What books/information are out for the Scarred Lands? I looked at their website but found their catalog descriptions vague. Is there a "main" book? Are the Creature Collections specifically geared towards the Scarred Lands, or are they just generic creatures?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Thykill

Corean was smiling on me today! :D

Okay good questions all.

Let me explain something to you about this little land. Much like FR in it's days before it got to be what it is now, BIG, the Scarred Lands are STILL being developed. So as of yet, there's no MAIN book. Just a series of them. However that will change VERY soon as the Hardcover for Ghelspad, much like the one you now own, will give more graphical and detailed analysis of this wonderous land.

The Creature Collections ARE both generic AND SL specific. One of the beauties of trying to make a world that fits into ANY campaign. CC1, being the first books, has some flaws, but nothing that I feel COMPLETELY detracts from what the Scarred Lands has to offer. CC2 though is a vast improvement, and is also more SL specific. Now Relics and Rituals, this is where the Scarred Lands shines. They have not just new spells, but magical items, pr-classes, AND a whole new way to cast spells called RITUAL magic. Then there's the Wise and the Wicked, a who's who of Scarred Land faces, both fair and foul. The Divine and the Defeated, gives DETAILED understandings of the gods, the Titans and their servants, as well as some groups devoted to each, along with spells, new domains AND even some background on each of the gods, both the Eight victors AND their demi-god followers, such as Goran, and Manawe, Lady of the Seas. Hollowfaust...well Hollowfaust is a odd duck, and in the Scarred Lands, that's SAYING something. :) It's the home of one of the more mysterious groups, a city of necromancers devoted to ideas such as research, defense and trade. These aren't your normal insane, power-mad necromancers by ANY stretch of the imagination. Mithril, is like Hollowfaust, a book about one of the more predominant city states, and home to the Mithril Golem, seat of Corean's power.

If you need any more info, don't HESISTATE to ask.

Thanks very much Nightfall. Thanks very much.

Now I'll have to scrape the gold pieces together, head to Ye Olde Shoppe of Wares, and purchase me some books. I love shopping!

No problem! :) I'm glad I can help. I will say the Hardcover for Ghelspad will be WELL worth the money, as it will RESEMBLE a lot of what the FRCS was, in terms of descriptions AND information.

I don't play in Scarred Lands, but I also reccomend the CC books. Very top of the line as far as unique monsters go. I particularly like the Carnival of Shadows and the Unhallowed.

:) I figured you say that Zeldsweet. ;)

Oh one more thing there WILL be a Relics and Rituals 2, but don't expect out til probably later in the year, like June at the earliest.

Put my vote here for most favourite setting to date. Scarred Lands is excellent, full of quests both big and small. It can handle both epic-scale adventures and the small, dark n' gritty backalleys adventuring with ease.

The Divine & Defeated and Relics & Rituals are by far the more detailed in regards to world background and info on the gods and magic but the Creature Collections give unique and challenging monsters.

I can't wait for the Ghelspad hardcover!

Not much longer Bov. They have it listed in the WW catalog so you KNOW it's only a matter of time. I imagine by the time April rolls around, we'll get to see it, if not sooner. I doubt though it will be in Early March.
