Scholar D20 Class Examples

Qwick Qwestion,

Does anyone know of vendors that provide write ups for a Scholar character class? Perhaps a Loremaster, etc. Basically a character class that doesn't cast spells and their abilities center around the learnin and the knowin?

If you do, if you could give a summary description and the publisher that provides it? The name of the source book/pdf would also be good.

TIA Ulmo

There's one in the back of the Monsternomincon by Privateer Press. It's basically someone who focues on one thing and adventures to look for it and study it.

Hmmm.......taking an idea from EQ Beastlord, give them this ability: any knowledge skill rank that they purchase gets them 2 ranks, up to their maximum allowed. It cannot take them over that maximum. Any extra points cost normal. (so if your max is 5, and you already have 4, you can spend that extra rank to get 1, but you dont get 2 ranks this time)

Every few levels they get Skill Focus(Knowledge) for a different knowledge skill?

Give them Decipher Script as a class skill, for deciphering old texts.....here goes what im thinking. Remember, this is a NPC class only.

Scholar.
Hit die: d4
Base attack bonus: as commoner. Scholars do not learn to fight.
Saves: As commmoner
Class skills: Decipher Script, all Knowledge skills, Search, Speak Language
Skill Points per level: 6+int mod
Weapon and armor proficiencies: Scholars are proficient with one simple weapon. He is not proficient with any other weapon, armor, or with shields.
Starting gear: 2d4x10 gp

You may want to take a look at Bastion Press' free PDF "Ink & Quill." It has a Scholar prestige class and lots of info/ideas about playing a more "brainy" character.

You might look into Rokugan d20 and its Courtier base class. It's not scholar, but it's a class that will suck in combat, but is the expert in the war of words (the imperial court, where the word of a courtier might hold more power than the katanas of a thousand samurai).

Ya know, a courtier would just KICK OUR BUTTS on this here UNseboard.

Hong "20th level barbarian from Austria" Ooi

Is it Austria or Australia?

And that courtier would mob the floor with us. And then he would use his connections to make one of the mods delete our account :D
