SG-1 and Atlantis will both have 20 episodes total. Half of them will be shown up until the end of mid- to late-September with the mid-season finale of SG-1 on September 16 and Atlantis on September 23. They both pick back up in January.

Good. That was one thing that annoyed me about the new seasons.

Why? I can't fathom the fervor over this. IMO, the shorter the opening, the better. All I ever do is fast-forward through them, anyway. Granted, I'd rather the extra time went to show than commercials, but I can't really say that I find the intro to be any more value-added than a commercial, anyway.

I've got to agree here. I just fast forward through the openings of shows. About the only one I've actually taken the time to watch recently has been the opening for Rome.

I really hope they don't go the "Spoiler" route that Battlestar Galactica did. I don't need to see spoiler scenes for the upcoming episode as I'm clicking past, thank you.

Personally, I've always enjoyed openers. I've found that a good opener helps new folks get a feel for the show's overall theme, which they may not have picked up clearly from the teaser at the beginning. It's also a good opportunity to get the credits out of the way, instead of overlaying them on the action for 5 minutes solid.

Plus, I'm addicted to theme music. ;) A show or movie's theme helps add to it, especially once that theme becomes familiar. Perhaps it's just a Pavlovian response, for me, but hearing that Stargate theme is just plain fun for me at this point.

Then again, as a kid, I always looked forward to a new season of cartoons precisely because the opener changed every year.

Maybe I'm just weird.

My wife and I started recording everything we watched many years ago. I have hardly ever seen an opening sequence in the last 8+ years.

The only exception was when Buffy and Angel were on back-to-back. But that's because it became a weekly social event with our friends. Still didn't pay any attension to the openning -- that's the time the chatter.
