[Scoop?] Iconics on Interactive DVD

The Sigil

I only put this in general because I know a lot of iconics will want to respond to this. ;)

Also demoed at the GAMA trade show yesterday - an interactive DVD with some of the iconic characters. It was running on a laptop and in the bustle of the show, you couldn't hear much, but here are some more tidbits:

1.) The DVD had Redgar, Mialee, and Lidda (at least when I was watching it). They are clearly computer-generated characters, about on the order of Final Fantasy: the Spirits within in detail, but the animation is excellent and smooth.

2.) The DVD has - let's see, what did they say - about 40 different "paths" with about 190 total choices. Depending on the choices made, the "movie" is 18 minutes (shortest) to over 40 minutes (longest).

3.) The movie runs in segments until you get to a "choice" - then you use the menu keys on your DVD player (or the mouse on the computer) to make your selection and the movie continues to run.

4.) Spell effects demonstrated while I watched (all Mialee's spells were a cyanish-blue in color) - detect magic and sleep. Detect magic shows Mialee's POV and has magical effects glowing the cyan-blue color - almost exactly how I envisioned it working :) - she detects a magic effect when Redgar is arm-wrestling some psionic(?) bald and tattooed characters in a tavern. Her sleep spell looks like a little blue glowing ball in her hand that shoots up to the roof of the tavern and "bursts" into a cloud of glowy blue sprinkles (tracing out the area of a sleep spell, nice touch) and putting people to sleep.

5.) Saw some scenes of Redgar kicking the snot out of some wolves. :)

6.) Mialee's hair is not all wild - she has it up in a semi-bun. Strangely enough, it looks pretty darn good on her. Also, there is no proliferation of large chests on the DVD - a nice touch - Mialee and Lidda look very believable (read: small) given their overall skinniness. Dare I say, Mialee looks kind of hot regardless? :p

7.) This part I'm kicking myself over - apparently these guys have a website but I didn't write it down! :( It's www.scourge???.com I tried googling for it but to no avail.

8.) DVD is due out in July.

EDIT: I believe a press release will be coming out sometime shortly after GAMA (next week)?

Ack, you got my hopes up. The CG isn't to the level of anything Final Fantasy. Sure, it's better than FF7, but it's not even as good as FF8, judging by the screenshots on their page. A little disappointing, but hopefully the story and acting will be good, right?

Heh. *weak grin*

Um, well, y'know, it never hurts to hope.

We all know what happened the last time a D&D company tried making a video demo of gameplay - can anyone say Dragonstrike?

Are you feeling brave tonight?

Dragonstrike was cool. But it wasnt interactive.

Teraptus the dragon was kinda cool. So was the harlequinn looking fire elemental.

That gallery looks some VERY good CGI.

It's not FF:the spirits within quality, but damn!
It's WAY better than anything D&D has ever had.

I wish this product much success, and would love to see it.

It'd be great if the adventurers found a surly, abusive dwarf stuck in the castle, trapped behind a wall that his magic hammer could break him out of.... ;)
