Scourge of the Worlds: Thoughts?

This choose your own adventure movie that is coming out in June seems to have gathered a bit of a buzz at GTA. Basic rundown for those who don't know what it is: a completely CGI movie made for DVD release only, with a choose your own adventure style to it.

From the still shots on the website, the graphics don't look too bad, Mialee certainly looks better in 3-D ( ). It actually sounds rather intruiging to me and if done well, it could be pretty cool.

Any other thoughts on this?

This movie sounds like a really fun way to take a break from roleplaying. Get your group together, crack some beers, and stick this movie into the DVD player. Good geeky times.

Second thought: What's up with Rayne? Where's Vadania?

Third thought: Clerics of Pholtus grate on even paladins.

Final thought: Eh, whatever. I'm not a big enough geek to buy it anyway.

Based on how it went at GTS, it would probably be a hoot to watch in a large group. At the show when a decision point was reached everyone shouted out their preference (and Anthony Valterra, IIRC, took a vote on which option to choose). Surprising fun!

The graphics were a little less detailed and (especially) smooth than I would have liked (there are many videogame cut scenes that look much, much better), but it was still fun, and Lidda had tons of great lines that had people cheering and laughing.

All-in-all it's pretty cool, and if it was available for rent in videostores (especially large ones like Blockbuster and Hollywood) in the regular video section it could actually drive interest in the game. While it hides all of the aspects of D&D that might drive some away (the math -- even simple addition -- and the quantity of rules), it keeps a lot of the spirit of the game with its "you're driving the adventure" theme.
