Screenshots of AVIs?

GAH!!!!!

I am at the end of my tether with this, and I might have to introduce my computer to a hammer very soon.

Anyway, the problem is this: I have an avi file, and I want to take a screenshot of a particular part of it. However, whenever I do, I paste it into an image program, I get a black screen where the avi should be.

It's really ****ing annoying me. Seriously. GAH.

Can anyone help?

are you using thrid party software to take the screen shot?

If you're on a windows system try just hitting print screen and taking a screen shot of the whole screen then using the graphics program to trim it.

Yeah, that's because AVIs usually use your video card's "video overlay" and is being displayed differently. I know of at least one program Hypersnap DX that will let you take a screenshot of AVIs, DVDs, etc...

You can try setting your video hardware acceleration to "none" in whatever player you're using. This worked for me (using Windows Media Player) in an experiment a few minutes ago. Quality may suffer, though.

Can I have your Manbabies?:D

Remember to switch back to hardware acceleration when you are done, otherwise some annoying side effects and behaviors (such as slowness, poor quality movies and such) may occur.

's okay, I used Media Player since Orbitalfreak advised that, but I use DivX for .avis and Quicktime for everything else.:D

And from it, I got...a new avatar! w00t!;)
