Sculpt Spell and touch spells

It says that the area of a spell is changed to one of the following, cylider with a 10 radius and 30 feet high, 40' cone, four 10' cubes, 20' radius sphere or 120' line.

Now what I am asking, is can this spell be applied to touch spells? For instance, instead of having Harm only do dmg to the one subject, could you have the spell turned into a 40' cone?

Does the spell have an area to shape? If there is no area to start with, the metamagic would not provide any benefit.
