I hope I don't get into trouble to ask this ...
The thing is, me and a friend are making a tabletop RPG combat assistant & map builder ... I know there are a lot of applications that let you do that, hehe
. Well, at least our program is in 3D, and tokens literally walk in the scene from one point to another. It has lights, fire areas with flames ... those things.
My question is about pricing ...
Our first take was to price it at 4$ more or less and then, later, when we had custom textured tilesets and miniature packs, sell them as expansions.
After a long debate, we concluded it would be better for people if we make the program free and even web accessible with some "share" buttons so people could use it to play in play-by-post forums. It would have very simple and plain tilesets, and textured tilesets (and new miniature packs) would come later having to pay to use them (one time purchase, of course).
This second option is quite more risky ... but we tough it would be nice if we achieved to make something people would use even if we don't make enough money.
Anyways, at the end of the day we are two guys debating things in the darkness. We need external input ... would you buy it? Would you make it pay to use? Subscription model?
