Seaworks Legend of Skull Cove

This was a challenging object to review. The biggest issue was my own limits and lack of a good artistic talent for putting this all together. But even my limited skill could not take away the sheer awesomeness of this. Seaworks: Legend of Skull Cove is a set of PDFs that are printed out on card stock and assembled. These are props and visuals that are created to be used along sides battle maps and miniatures. D&D is probably the most common game they are used for but since there are no mechanics involved they can really be used as props in other games like Savage Worlds that can have a heavy pirate and swashbuckling feel.

Seaworks: Legends of Skull Cove is a collection of almost two hundred unique items. They come in a single zip file that is almost fifty megs in size. The price for the PDF is not too bad, but the cost of printing all of this out on card stock and in color can add significantly to the cost. It all depends on what type of printer one has and if they are lucky enough to be able to print at work or school for no cost to them. Assembling all of it takes quite a bit of time. I imagine once one gets good and competent it does a faster. I felt I was kind of getting better at it but it can take a steady hand that I do not really have.

The stuff looks really good. The pictures on their web site looked mostly like what I was able to assemble. The web site has many tutorials and helpful hints to make the experience as easy as they can. I imagine the only way they could make it easier was to show up at my place and walk me through it. The tools one needs are simple items that I already had around the house. However, getting the tools may be an additional cost though scissors and glue can probable get the job done. They recommend a straight edge razor like knife.

The Legend of Skull Cove is a pirate setting. The pieces include docks, boats, cannons, treasure chests, and other items that one frankly expects to see in a pirate campaign. One just needs to take a look at the long list of items included here in the product description to see that.

This does take quite a few man hours to get all together. I did not keep track of the time it took as I would pull this out while watching TV and football games. I constructed it all over the course of a month or so. If one sits down and just devotes a few Saturdays to it and really works at it I imagine it would not take nearly as long. It was an area where my own limited skill made it a bit tough at times. Patience is an important virtue with these items.

With a good cardboard stock and keeping the pieces someplace safe I have to imagine that these can last for a good while. They are sturdy but a book falling on them for instance can flatten them. So, one needs to be a bit careful with them in that way. The whole things is made up of pieces so they can be interchanged around a bit so players are not always seeing the exact same thing for different locations. Also, other sets by Worldworks can be combined together to really make each new place unique even if the pieces and sets the players have seen many times.

Once they are together and one gets to play with these toys I think they will be very happy. It is not for everyone but for people that love to use minis and enjoy sets and three dimensional props for the miniatures this could rally be a great item to enhance one’s pirate campaign.
