Secret Police and Spies?

Shaghayegh

First Post
I am looking for a prestige class and feats that would be good for a secret police force and spies to maintain order in a dictatorship. Kind of a medieval gestapo. Any suggestions?

That would be a good one, is there a more secular alternative? I'm thinking there should be something for Rogues and Fighters to build up to that puts an emphasis on investigation and interrogation with some steath abilities...

Master of Many Forms, Ghost-Faced Killer and Spymaster from CompAdv; Master of Masks from CompScoundrel; Kensai, Mindspy, Invisible Blade from CompWar.

The Harper Agent (Forgotten Realms) PrC could easily be adapted for this role as well.

I forget where I saw it but there is also a Zhentarim Fighter that replaces your normal Fighter levels with lots of Intimidation benefits, could be good for 'bruisers'.

Want to interrogate someone without violating either their mind or their body (or your Good alignment)?

Simulacrum is the spell for you. You need some snow and a few hairs or nail clippings from your suspect. If they have a hair brush you can do it without them even knowing.

Create you simulacrum of them, then ask it questions. It has most if not all of the knowledge of the original. It could be expensive, except that you don't have to create it at its maximum hit dice. After all, all you want is what the person knows, and though the original might hate you and oppose this, the simulacrum will obey your commands and cooperate fully.

Obviously not for routine suspects, but if you want to know what that visiting Nobleman is *really* up to, cast the spell and ask it. You'll soon know every juicy detail.

It has most if not all of the knowledge of the original.
The spell doesn't say the simulacrum gets the full memories of the original.

Simulacrum creates an illusory duplicate of any creature. The duplicate creature is partially real and formed from ice or snow.It appears to be the same as the original, but it has only one-half of the real creature’s levels or Hit Dice (and the appropriate hit points, feats, skill ranks, and special abilities for a creature of that level or HD).

It could be expensive, except that you don't have to create it at its maximum hit dice.
It does not read like the spell lets the caster adjust the HD. "it has only one-half of the real creature’s levels or Hit Dice" not it has up to only one-half of the real creature’s levels or Hit Dice.

Master of Masks from CompScoundrel
Because nothing says undercover like wearing an actual mask on your face. "Would you believe... sensitive skin?" Until they hit level 6 of the PrC they must spend a lot of time making coffee back at headquarters. Or they're all issued with Hats of Disguise, I suppose.

CompScoundrel also offers the Psibond Agent, who can commandeer another's senses.

It's for their balls. Secret policemen have to have balls, right?

Especially fancy dress balls, in which everyone will be wearing masks.

;)

I'd suggest two or more branches of this organization: one for intelligence gathering, the other for enforcement and assassination.

Nobody has mentioned the spymaster yet- it's a pretty good choice for the intelligence gathering side of things.

And there's always the good ol' assassin for the other side.
