The elderly Mason who met me up there casually asked me some questions about my background, told me a bunch of stuff about the different parts of the lodge, I expressed some surprise that the symbol for the Eastern Star (lady Masons) is an upside down star - a no-no in my general religious experience - and a bit of surprise and distaste when I was told that Black men aren't allowed, but rather, have their own Masonic order and lodges. And then he gave me a petition to join, and asked me to come back to watch a third degree initiation tomorrow night.Considering he didn't really know me from Adam (I'm being vouched for by a co-worker from a lodge in a completely different town), it really didn't seem like a very secretive secret order. <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f609.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=";)" title="Wink    ;)"  data-smilie="2"data-shortname=";)" />I was a little amused when he warned me that the hard part of getting initiated  - a part he had had a lot of trouble with - is learning something that includes a lot of "thees" and "thous" and "dosts" and such - since sometimes I have to STOP myself from talking that way in just day to day matters! <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f600.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":D" title="Big grin    :D"  data-smilie="8"data-shortname=":D" />I'm a bit irritated now, actually, though - I'd really like to join. Most of the Founding Fathers were members, and so was an ancestor of mine.
