Hello,
I need your help. I want to secure a tunnel with a automatic gun (with a detection system, maybe a visual one or laser trap). If the PCs go through the tunnel it should shoot the PCs. May problem is that there is no specification to it. How should the attack modifer be (the damage is sure; I take it from an assault gun)?
The PCs are level 6.
Thanks in advance!
Bye

Unfortunately, the cutting edge of targeting technology is still in development for the most part, and too large to fit into a manportable weapon system. Currently, only aircraft based munitions are capable of targeting via visual recognition, mainly because most of the recognition system remains with the aircraft.
smaller semi-manportable systems are still completely experimental, and are plagued by problems with misidentification and the resulting accidental discharge triggered by the visual and thermal recognition systems (i.e. why is this man-killing sentry gun shooting the hell out of ever rat that walks in front of it?), as well as the fact that the system's battery life is insufficient for long term deployment. They're also indiscriminate. one's allies are as valid a target to such a weapon as one's enemies are, and no one has produced a reliable soldier-level IFF system to counter this problem as of yet.
the current crop of sentry systems are far more basic, ranging from the simplicity of tripwire-rigged grenade boobytraps and command detonated directional mines like the claymore, to more sophisticated systems, like the Belgian Jet Shot Silent Weapon System (I'm not even sure if this one is still manufactured), a disposable 12-round multi-barrel grenade launcher system that can kill everything in a 10 x 50 meter area once it is triggered (can be wired to tripwires, lasers, IR beams, and "home security" type economical alarm devices as the triggering mechanism). The French use the LaCroix SPHINX-MODER Perimeter Defense System, a triple-barrel grenade launcher that can target things in a 155 degree arc, firing fragmentation, CS gas, or an audible siren warning round.
Another option is to use remote sentry guns, rather than automatic sentry guns. With these, a staff in a control center can monitor the entire security system and manually target and operate the guns via remote control as needed. The latest crop of these remote sentry systems are especially hazardous to a target because they are not only extremely accurate, but they are highly mobile as well, being built into all manner of robotic tracked vehicles and even ATVs. So even if the infiltrators manage to take out all the guns in one sector, guns from other sectors can be moved in and deployed in the disarmed sector in a matter of minutes.
Currently, automated sentry guns have about a 60% chance of hitting a living target it is aiming at. remote sentry guns, thanks to human guidance, run at about an 85% chance to hit. A few of the remote sentry gun systems, like that of the TRAP, are accurate enough to be used as long range remote sniping systems. The simpler systems rely on area of effect to accomplish their lethal objective, so for that, I'd say use a save with a negative modifier for how far into the field the victims happen to be.
I'm guessing this is enough detail for you to flesh out your own specific game rules on the subject?
