Seeking opinions of a new idea...

As some of you know, I am setting up a series of D&D magazines to be sold in PDF form over the internet (btw, the first issue of Almanac One went off to layout yesterday, and if I say so myself it looks good.) Among other magazines, I plan to set up one publishing adventures, but with a new concept.

The basic idea is to take a longish module and wrap a magazine around it. The magazine would consist then of a long module, a couple of shorter site-based modules to be dropped into a campaign world, and a couple of rules-based articles (new prestige classes, spells, etc.) There is some more information available on the website, but I would like to know people’s opinions of this concept.

Thanks!

Honestly I think that direkobold is the pinacle of e-publishing adventures. I'd probably not purchase another subscription for adventure based stuff.

YMMV

Dungeon magazine is awesome. It is cheap, and a great resource. DireKobold runs in the same sort of vein, and with their Xenogenic system they are smooooth. If you create something similar tot hese, I think it will also receive community support.

P.S. Make it full color!

P.P.S. Maybe you could look into teaming up with DireKobold for something like this? Just to make the adventure scalable?

Since it's electronic, why not both? Make the "real" version full-color, with a black-and-white option and even an image-less option for ease of printing.

I personally am a big fan of seeing nice full-color stuff on my computer. And some folks do have the capability of printing in color. I think it makes the publication seem much more professional.

Dire kobold offers high res, low res, just maps and no images. I usually go for the no images which gives me these neat little rectangles everywhere an image should be that I can use to take notes. I also ran my PCs through the same adventure at 1st and 7th level, they didn't even know it.

Anyway, if you're going to compete with dk you need to offer something that they do not and I don't think this will be easy.

Well, as I said, the magazine will not just be one module, but a module with a magazine wrapped around it. This means that for your $5 you will get one good-length adventure, two shorter site-based adventures that neither can be used with the main adventure or independantly, and a couple of articles developing points brought up in the main adventure.

Don't think I'd buy it unless is offered dynamic leveling of those adventures like dk does.
