Just moved to RI and started a new 3.5 game. There are a few newbs in it (which actually makes it kind of fun) and the DM is really good (lots of props and maps). I've been going through a little bit of D&D burnout but it's actually nice to play with some people who are new to the game because it's not really about the most powerful characters and builds. I'm also taking a new approach with my character: a half-orc (never played one before) who's not stupid (although he's a bit naive to civilized regions) and uses a spiked chain (never used one before either). I've also given myself a few conditions for this campaign to keep it fresh for me: 1. No hardcore build planning: 2. No metagaming 3. Stay in character as much as possible, including using an accent :D 4. Have FUN! Everyone seems to love Barshek so far. We had hilarious moment last session. We have been seeing a ghost at night in the city and we have been following it and eventually to an abandoned warehouse. We fought some baddies there and thought the ghost led us there for a reason. We searched the place but didn't find anything and then the local authorities took over. The next night, Barshek had visions of the ghost crying out in pain. He kind of freaked out and ran back to the warehouse. When he got there, the door was locked so he bashed it down. Well the guards were still there and there was almost an "incident". When asked why he bashed the door down Barshek responded, "Because it was locked." Classic. I guess you had to be there. :) I'm playing in another 3.5 campaign but it's kind of on hiatus right now. One guy is moving so we might start from scratch again and I might run a low-magic Grim Tales campaign. I would love to get a Mutants & Masterminds or Shadowrun campaign going but it's a little more difficult to find players for that. I hear ya. When I got the book, the ideas just started flowing. I have a little notebook full of names, adventure ideas, etc. Unfortunately, I don't live in the Underdark, otherwise I would love to join your game. :\
