Serenity 2 - If you made it

If you were in charge of Serenity 2, how would you do it?

I would bring back Niska, who probably has a serious hate-on for Mal. I kinda doubt he was taken out by the Alliance. ;)

Also, the guys with Blue Gloves would show up.

Another big space battle. Maybe a new rebellion.

The Operative would show up again, not sure in what position.

I think that "blue-gloves", which I believe are members of Blue-Sun Corporation, would play some prominent role as antagonists in a sequel. I am basing that off of DVD special features for the complete series of Firefly. I have not read any of the RPG material yet.

I would also like to learn more of Book's character. Maybe they could do some flashbacks or get some information about him. I really thought they would find more out in this first film.

They need another guy in the crew to balance them again.

There is plenty more that can be done. I hope they continue this in some medium. I would like more movies, or TV, maybe novels. I think the possibilities are endless.

I would have crew be minor, and unwilling, celebrities: enough of the soldiers who received the "Stand Down!" order would put two and two together with the revelations about Miranda that everyone would eventually figure out they were behind the information release. Ironically, this rumor would protect them: the Alliance is already so crippled by the revelation that if they try to silence the crew of Serenity, the backlash would be lethal to them.

Of course, their celebrity status more or less torpedoes their chances of smuggling: they're too well-known.

So a new rebellion starts happening, with political and military angles, as the Alliance itself is torn apart from the inside. And many, many players want Mal and co on their side. Plenty of intrigue, the eruption of a war, and all kinds of fun.

It'd be a completely different "show", but with the same actors, and the same universe.

the first threads of rebellion start coming together. They all want Mal Reynolds and/or Zoe to head it up. Mal tries to fight the leadership position as long as possible. Another Rebellious faction starts cropping up, performing really deadly stuff to Alliance troops. You find out that The operative is behind that cell, but his cell gets utterly destroyed. Serenity shows up at the end of that fight, rescues the operative, ad he joins the crew. While being treated in the med-lab Simon discovers something unusual...the operative has an identical DNA sig. as Shepard Book. Either they are clones (not likely) or somehow The Operative, at some point in the future "leaves the world" for some time, travels back in time, and finds Serenity in order to help Malcom Reynolds with his early crisis of faith. He manages to kill himself in the past, never realising he had already helped Mal with his crisis of faith. Kaylee has Simon's baby. The Blue-hands ar einvolved, but not the principle villain...they are saved for #3.

I'd have the operative show up again, but discraced and no longer working for the alliance becuase of his failing in the first movie. He helps the Serenity crew out and in the end falls on his sword after he repays them for being shown "the truth".

Uh, he pretty much said at the end of the movie that because of what was revealed that he's
"no longer their man". "Their" meaning the alliance. He did help the Serenity crew out by pulling the firing squad off of them and letting them heal their wounded and fix their ship. It wasnt the fact that he failed the Alliance, it was the fact that all of the faith he had in the Allience was shattered by the fact that the "better world" he was working toward was a sham.

He owed the crew of SERENITY for opening his eyes to that and repaid them by letting them fix thier wounded their ship and bury thier dead.

I'd go in a completely different direction, myself. Not sure of the exact plot, but I'd have the Alliance/Blue Sun storylines take a backseat in the next one (maybe tease a little bit with them), but have more of a picareseque adventure along the rimworlds. Bring back a little bit more of the "old west" feel, but with just that right blend of lived-in sci-fi to make it different.

Save the big Alliance/New Browncoat Rebellion stuff for the third installment.

This is how I'd go- it makes sense, too, since the folks on Serenity will definitely want to keep a low profile for a while. As things escalate (rebellion, or Blue Sun's search for River) they will eventually realize they can't hide from their destiny and head back from the rim- just in time for a third (and final) movie. :D (Hey, a guy can hope, can't he? :) )
