Serenity 2

At the risk of derailing my own thread it seems that the first movie has been adapted for hand puppets already :)

Strong series DVD sales are what got us Serenity. They'd not use the same sales to also justify another movie, especially given that Serenity hits DVD in less than three weeks. They'll wait to see how this movie sells on DVD before making any decisions.
So are you saying that they won't make the decision based on DVD sales but then saying that they will wait to see what the DVD sales will be?

My take on the rumour is this. The DVD is about to be released so the studio puts out a rumour that there may be a sequel depending on how well the DVD sells. The studio knows that the fanbase is very much based on the internet and very loyal/fanatical :) Therefore the plan is to drive up the DVD numbers with an easily deniable ruomour of a sequel.

Read the article again:

"Sources said that, given the strong sales of the TV series Firefly on DVD, Universal is planning a sequel film to Serenity..."

So, I'm saying they won't base it on series DVD sales. They'll base it on movie DVD sales, if anything.

I know I'll be picking up mine at Circuity City (unless Best Buy have a much lower price; it's closer to where I live).

I don't see how Serenity will not get a sequel, and yet Fantastic Four will.

Maybe this time around, they'll aim for a summer opening date.

Could it be because one made $150+ million, and the other (unfortunately) only made $25 million? Guess which film is which.

Not saying it's right, but business is business.

Actually, counting worldwide , it's like $335 million vs $37, compared to a cost of $100 million vs $40 million to make.

So one basically tripled their money, while the other almost broke even.

And hopefully will AT LEAST do so after DVD sales.

Oh yeah, after DVD sales, I'm sure it will make money. Which is why I said earlier, a straight to DVD movie release is possible. Because if they follow the D&D movie model, low budget, decent sales, they can make money. But will the cast & crew want to do that? With most direct to video movie series, they change the cast every movie or so.

Major spoilers for the first movie contained. You have been warned:

[sblock]Well, they might want to fill the gap, now that Wash and Shepherd Book are gone, and we know what the deal with Simon and River are.[/sblock]
