Serenity takes Star War's crown!

Anyway, what bugs me is "Back to the Future" was on the top ten list, but not "Aliens". Back to the Future is an good movie, and cute, but not that great. "Aliens" is a masterpiece of Sci-Fi.

Well, it depends a bit on what qualifies as "masterpiece".

I don't know the numbers, but I wouldn't be surprised if Back to the Future was more loved by more non-genre fans. And perhaps part of the qualifications for a true masterpiece is the ability to speak to people outside the fold. Just as Star Wars did that better than Serenity, maybe Aliens is a bit more niche than BttF.

Alien was #6 -- maybe they bunch the whole franchise in with the first movie. That would make sense IMHO. :) (BTW, IMHO Aliens was superior to Alien, and was a better classic.)

I'm also deeply annoyed that Back to the Future made the list, but Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure -- the one time-travel movie that gets causality right -- wasn't included. Bah, humbug.

The poll was for best sci-fi movie, which I think Serenity deserved. If it was for "greatest" sci-fi movie it should have gone to either Star Wars. To clarify; I think that Serenity was better done than Star Wars, with better characters, better dialogue, and a more original plot. However, Star Wars was revolutionary, and was vital to the development as sci-fi as we know it today.

Exactly....I tend to classify Alien(s) as much as horror films as they are sci-fi. I hate gory movies, and was never able to watch the whole series.

If that makes me a wimp, so be it..

Of course, I wasn't a huge fan of Back to the Future either....but I think it was a more "accessible" movie to the general public.

I think that was the case, since Star Wars was the only one there.

[EDIT]Er... I can speak good! Since the first movie was the only one from the franchise there.

Aliens was a lot better than Alien.

At the moment, our notions of causality do not include time travel at all. We cannot (yet?) tell what effect blue phone booths have on the nature of cause and effect, so we cannot say what is right or wrong, there.
