The Bodai! As always, input and suggestions for improvements are welcome! BODAI The Bodai is a race famed for their horsemanship and ferocity, and lives in the grasslands. They're in constant conflict with the Juni people from the desert. Bodai Traits (Ex): Bodai possess the following racial traits. -- -2 Strength, +2 Dexterity: Bodai are quick and agile, but their lithe forms make them weaker than other races. -- Small size. -- A bodai's base land speed is 20 feet. -- Weapon Proficiency: Bodai receive the Martial Weapon Proficiency feats for shortbow (and composite shortbow). They train exclusively with bows when hunting prey or protecting their native grasslands. -- +2 racial bonus on all Craft checks related to working with cloth and fur. -- +2 racial bonus on Listen and Spot checks: Bodai have keen senses. -- +2 racial bonus on Move Silently checks: Bodai are skilled at sneaking up quietly on others. -- +3 racial bonus on Ride checks: Bodai are excellent horse riders. -- Mounted Marksman (Ex): All bodai are used to fight on mounted horses. A bodai receives a +2 circumstance bonus on ranged attack rolls made from horseback. -- +2 morale bonus on saving throws against fear: Bodai are fearless warriors. -- Bodai receives Listen and Spot as permanent class skills. -- Favored Class: Ranger. Designer's Notes: I could see them as either barbarian or ranger as their favored class. Barbarian because they are often seen as ferocious warriors or rangers because of their skill in archery. I made up the archery bit and don't know whether it is appropriate or not for the theme of this race. I thought it might fit because it makes hunting in the grasslands a lot easier when using ranged weapons. It might also be intruding on the elf's turf with the bow stuff. Hunting with slings seem so ... so puny for a race that is supposed to be fierce :P Before I gave the bodai (and juni) racial attack bonus against each other, however, I decided to remove it. The reason for this is that it might bring unnecessary tension between players in a party with one of each races. I might have "shoe-horned" the bodai into the ranger niche ... for good or bad. I don't know if this fits the vision of the race. Tell me what you think.
