Shackled City questions

First Post
Hi all,

I'm about to start the Shackled City Campaing (well, actually I'm currently reading it), and I was wondering a couple of things. So, ¿how would you handle the following issues?

1) My group is made of 4 players. And I have read that SC is suited for 6 PC. ¿What would you do to control XP given to the PC in order for them to progress through the campaing while fitting in the chapters requirements (ad-hoc XP, lowering EL, etc)?. That is, for instance, not reaching the 2 chapter with 4 o 5 levels.
2) ¿What changes would you do, if any, to fit SC to the Eberron Setting? Or would you prefer FR?

Thanks for your comments.

Not knowing if you are using the book or the magazines(I assume the book). There should be a section about scaling your adventure(s).

In the Dungeon versions, they all included scaling sections. For instance, I'm running a group of 8 through the first adventure. They are all 4-6 level. And set in the Diamond Throne(Arcana Evolved) setting.

Using the adjustments they provided, and a couple of on the fly ideas, its kicking their behinds. And hard.

4 instead of 6 isn't that big of an issue. If you feel the PC's are over powered, scale back an encounter or two. Who will know? Just you.

Read the adventure and decide if you think their characters can handle it. It won't be that difficult.

Yes. Sorry. I'm using the book. And As far as I have read, and as odd as it may seem, I haven't found a scaling section, that's why I was asking... Can anybody post the scaling section here or reference it on the book?

I think he meant 'over-matched'.

I might throw the PC's a small bone by letting the make characterw that were an ECL +1 to start with. Something small and not overpowered like an asiamar or tiefling.

Use of action points to help them survive.

Having an extra NPC or two to fill in niche spots that aren't good at much else. For example, a healer instead of a cleric, an expert instead of a rogue.

I'm putting SC in Greyhawk where it's located on the old GH map from Dragon so I'm set as far as all that. Just putting together the miniatures now including some bandit figures for the thieves in the first encounter and some dark creepers and dark stalker for the latter bit. Have to find a big old dwarf though. Think I'll probably use a confrontation dwarf. They look all screwed up anyway, perfect for the half breed!

I ran the campain (and just finished sunday night) out of the magazines and i found it easyer to just level them up at approprate times in the campin insted of doing true Xp. part of that could be that it was my first time DM and the Xp go to much to handel but that worked well for me
