When he was 3 years old, his parents moved to Canada for his father's work. When Daniel was 12 years old, his parents moved again, this time to the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio.</p><p></p><p>In September 1970, Daniel went straight from High School to the Pittsburgh Institute of Art & Design. It was here that he met Chris Franz and Tonya Heyward who were also enrolled as Freshmen. Daniel was not very impressed by art school: "I think art school is a real racket, especially in this country. You run into a couple of good teachers and some interesting students but for the amount of money you spend, it's not worth it".</p><p></p><p>At the Pittsburgh Institute of Art & Design, Daniel studied a functional design program. He also took a conceptual art course. The staff were not sure about Daniel, particularly when he put on a performance in which he had his hair and moustache shaved off onstage to a pipe organ and accordion accompaniment while a stripperl displayed cue cards written in Russian. His professors were not impressed, and Daniel found himself out on the street. He had been in art school for one year.</p><p></p><p>After that he travelled around the United States. Back in Cleveland Daniel met a guy called Marc Tahoe and together they formed a duo called Bad Juju - and apt name since Daniel sang and Marc played the accordion, triangle and bagpipes. Bad Juju lasted from February 1971 until March 1972, during this year they played at the art school, a theatre and the local nightclubs, before moving to San Francisco where they busked on the streets and sometimes got jobs in restaurants. Their repertoire consisted mainly of old standards such as 'The Glory Of Love', 'April Showers' and the Frank Sinatra songbook. When spring came around, Marc went off to make underground movies and Daniel decided to move back to Cleveland to see his friends Chris and Tonya.</p><p></p><p>Daniel was leadsinger of The Headshotz.
