One problem, many people seem to have at this time, is coming up with campaign settings for d20 Modern. "It isn't like the old days, with Top Secret, the Cold War is over, blah blah blah." So, here for your perusal, is 3 possible campaign settings, lightly sketched out and ready to go. U.S. Marshalls: The US Marshalls have a long tradition of service, dating back decades, fighting against everything from run of the mill murderer's to investigating treason and possible terrorist threats. THe US Marshalls are allowed to go beyond normal procedure, and are allowed to use lethal force when necessary. They are well equipped, highly trained, and expected to do everything from undercover drug ring investigation to SWAT assistance (providing tactics). In the US Marshalls campaign setting, the PC will be considered a "Hard Option Investigation Team" that is usually assigned what promises to be a difficult case. The PC's will be allowed 1 or 2 pistols and an SMG. SOmeone within the team will be issued a pump action 12 guage shotgun, and another a Sniping capable assault rifle (standard, believe it or not, is a M-16A2 with scope, or M-4 Carbine with scope). Cases assigned to characters can be anything from psionic or shadow creature investigations, working with the fledgling National Defense Agency, or standard Department of Justice missions. This was tried, and the PC's enjoyed it very much. Suggested missions: Anti-Terrorist Investigations. Drug Enforcement and Interdiction Serial Killers Shadow Creature Ring Psionic Criminals Homeland Defense Agency While the Homeland Defense Agency is still in it's conceptual stages, the agency promises to have more freedoms to protect American freedoms, higher technology, with access to NSA, FBI, CIA and DoJ technologies, equipment and personell. For a campaign setting, it is best if the GM allows HDA to have extraterritorial powers, allowing PC's to leave the country. While it may seem as if all they will be doing is fighting terrorists, there is also anything that destabalizes currency, economy, etc. The PC's will be set up as an "Interdiction Asset" that will handle everything from investigation to wetwork. SInce the PC's will be expected to face hard contact, they will be issued armor, weapons, and even demolitions. Suggested foes: Terrorist organizations. Corporate Hit Teams Anarchist Groups Shadow Creatures Moreau Liberation Group Ecoterrorists Well, not 3, but 2 for right now. Tell me what you think. Yes, it's a skeletal outline, but opinions are very welcome.
