Shapechange to a solar

So what are the benefits for shape changing into a solar? How do you work out benefits as a general rule? The stats for a solar are obviously signicantly different to a normal PC; what mods do you keep and what do you lose when you shape change?

If you Shapechange into a Solar, you gain the following:

+18 Str
+10 Dex
+10 Con
Large size
Outsider creature type
Angel sub-type
Extraplanar sub-type (yes, you can be banished or blasphemed back to the solar's home plane!)
Good sub-type
+21 natural AC
Speed 50 ft (fly 150 ft good)
All Solar Special Qualities (too much to list easily)

You will lose any supernatural abilities of your original form. You will not gain spells or spell-like abilities. You will not gain their equipment (you will keep your own, adjusted to large size). Your HP will not change, except those granted by your Con bonus (and that will go away when you shift again).

Shapechanging into a creature with alignment descriptors give the shapechange spell those alignment descriptors. So an evil caster might suffer alignment consequences of changing into a solar (or be prohibited from doing it, at the DM's option).

I dont think that you gain the stats bonuses you say. You gain the abilities of a typical solar, so you wil have the following stats:

STR 28
DEX 20
CON 20

It doesnt matter what your original abilities are, you get this.

I agree. I also checked the SRD and a Solar has 22 HD so you would need to be a 22nd level caster, assuming you had some way to get around the 15 HD level cap of the polymorph spell. Mind you, as an epic level wizard you might have access to an epic polymorph spell and at these levels you will probably need stat like these.

Shapechange, not Polymorph. ;)

Note, that Shapechange has been errata'ed and you cannot assume forms TWICE your caster level in hit dice, but only up to your caster level, so you would need to be fairly high level (well, it's a 9th level spell after all, so that's a given, I guess ;)) and that means either epic level or 17th+ with some way to boost your caster level (i.e. Archmage Spell Power).
