(Couldn't resist).
The shadowed realm of Blood Sorcerors is shunned, the subject of rumor and outlandish conjecture. A few travelers come and go, reporting a countryside of almost frighting normalcy, save for the shrines and a few strange practices.
"Blood to the land!" is the commoner's saying. Give of your strength to the land, and the horrific, unseen Blood Sorcerors will gaze kindly on your endeavors from their towers of black stone. Each third day, every commoner gives a little blood. The dead, of course, give their blood to the earth. Crops, cattle and people are healthy. So what if a few travelers disappear every now and again? Life is good, and one shouldn't question the will of the Blood Sorcerors.
Those who transgress or trespass on the realm are met by the blood of the land: literally. Oozing from the ground in monsterous forms, it has drowned thieves and armies alike.
The rivers run red near the sea; no ship can approach the reddened waters of the realm without risking death or worse for the crew. The monsters of the deep grow large there, and the blood of the realm is no less powerful for being diluted by the sea.
