I've been critical of Zachary Levi being cast for the role and while he still looks too small for the muscle suit, I can let it slide as part of the characters appeal as "a little boys head on a supermans body" - especially if he keeps the comic timing throughout the story.

I think Snyder wanted to differentiate between the tone of the MCU and the DCEU, by making the DCEU darker.

It would work if rumor that this DCEU was indeed where the "Injustice League" or the "Crime Syndicate" originates from.

Much like how STD (ST: discovery) originally wanted us to think it was not based in the Mirror Universe, which they have since stated it indeed is.

Not entirely sure if you got what DSC or DIS or DISCO actually did. It's still not based in the Mirror Universe. It's in the Prime Timeline, but there were people from the Mirror Universe involved in the story, and eventually they visit it.
