I was just wondering what this group wanted in a ship construction system and what they feel is missing from or what is great about the ones already out there.

You can ask me about any of the construction systems on this list. I generally like more detailed, realistic system (cf. GURPS Vehicles), but this is not shared by everyone. I strongly like the T20 design system which allows for building just about anything with a whole lot less math than Vehicles. The other system I might recommend would be the D20 Mecha. I like these system because the are flexable enough to make anything without having to rebuild the entire system if you add a new peice of weird equipment.

If you are considering creating your own construcion system, consider two questions: How much math will the readers tolerate before your system is "too complex"? Is your system for building one specific type of craft (spaceships, ground vehicles, etc), or will it support all of them?

These questions are related, as providing more options requires more math on the part of the users. Providing the Balance between too much complexity and giving more options can be a tricky balance act.
