I too wouldn't mind going on a specific quest designed to be about a level or two long. That will be a shakedown period ... a time for getting into character, learning how to work together, etc. Beyond that, I figure the longterm goals might come out of something that happens during the first couple of levels. For me, this will be the first time I've played in Eberron ... so to be too specific just isn't possible. Well, and of course, there is that. I'm not even sure I've been accepted into the game because there are to be some chosen out of the eight. So, before I put too much thought into long-term goals, I wouldn't mind having that little piece out of the way. I'm not trying to pressure or anything, because I realize that some players have only stated interest and not given anything to choose from. So I'm not pointing a finger, just making an observation that I'd like to know I am in it for the long haul before making too many plans. Oh, and about the AmorFati rant - I agree. PbP games are hindered by the lack of being able to interpret body language ... and the time it takes to get through an encounter. And the fact that anyone can flip back through the thread and find exactly what was said and quote it and whatnot. in tabletop, encounters go by much more quickly and general ideas get remembered - not specific words. Thus, while I love tabletop games that may involve lack of trust, I like PbP games that everyone just assumes they want to cooperate to succeed. But that is just my opinion - one valid opinion among many other valid opinions.
