Should a publisher always have a web forum of some kind?

I've gotten used to always being able to go to a publisher's website, click over to some discussion forum, and start ranting about what I liked or didn't like...

So this past weekend I bought the Way of the Witch from Citizen Games, got home, tracked down their website (there was no link listed on the book that I've found so far), and went over to see what kind of fan discussion might be present...

And found nothing. No forum, no email list.

Now I've got all this stuff in me that I want to babble, and nowhere to babble it.

So... most of the publishers seem to have some place for people to talk about their product. How do people feel about this.

Should a publisher always have such?

Does it help to have it, even when it gets traffic from people who are unsatisfied?

Can it be a hinderance?

PS: I really liked the Way of the Witch book, and recommend it to those looking for a book on Witches for D&D. There are a few strange elements, but overall it's a solid product.

While it would be nice to have a forum to monitor the gamer's opinion of their wares and provide a patron community that share a likeness for their wares, that's up to the publisher's and their web site's operation budget.

I would rather they provide web enhancement or support for their product lines. Let someone else to provide a fan forum.

Not really. What they do need, IMO, is a place to interact and field questions from the fans. They can do that here, Morality, or via e-mail but being fairly consistent is a must. A forum cuts down on redundant e-mail.

A forum definately doesn't hurt, though :) It increases the chance of repeat customers and creates a definate bond between the company and their fans.

I have always offered a forum for a publisher. The only criteria is that they have ONE or more products FOR SALE, and that they USE the forum regularly. If too many fans post, and get no replies, then, we close the forum down.

Granted, the forum is a sub-forum of our Hosted Publisher Forums, but, the offer has stood till this day. And theres no cost.

Just meet the small criteria.

Citizen Games hosts their forum with the d20 Magazine Rack. You can get to their forum by clicking here.

The webmaster for Citizen Games has yet to add the link to their site...

Hi
The Malladins Gate forum also known as Dune. A barren and desolate place were even a single letter of text is precious :)

Sounds like my forums. I'm hoping things will pick up over there once my next release comes out.

Back to the coal mines...
