These are all aspects of their toughness (for me, the classic fantasy example here is the Fellowship in the pass of Caradhras).And so the analogue to "scaling" monster threats - say, Ogres rather than Orcs - is stepping up the weather - say, a cyclone rather than a gale.</blockquote>
