In a different thread, Roudi asked me for my list of podcast (I referred to it as disgustingly long) and recommendations. Rather than hijack the thread, I figured I'd come here, post the list, and ask others to list all the podcasts they listen, gaming or otherwise, with short descriptions. Who knows, maybe we'll find a new podcast to make each list even more disgustingly long!

Let's start off with Gaming/Geek Podcasts:

Writing Podcasts:

Travel Podcasts:

And Misc Podcast

I don't necessarily listen to each episode all the way through (sometimes I fast forward parts, or scan the episode), but I do listen to each one. And the list does keep growing; I just started sampling two more travel podcasts and some Judaism podcasts, but I won't list them until I am sure I am commiting to them.

Now, show me yours! :)

My immense thanks. I will definitely be checking into most of these podcasts - particularly Stackpole's. He's among my favourite authors!

Ive tried to do some research on podcasts in general, but Im not getting anywhere. Could somebody spell it out to me? I promise Im not an idiot, I just dont get this. Is it internet radio? How do I listen? argh....thanks.

Podcasts are just mp3 files that are syndicated using RSS. That means you can "subcribe" to the lastest mp3 file in the series just the way you can subscribe to an RSS-enabled news page. Since the sound files are in mp3 format, they are not broadcast in the sense that it is live. You don't have to have an iPod or even iTunes to listen to a podcast. All you have to do is click on a link and download the episode to your hard drive and listen to it like you would any other sound/music file. However, programs like iTunes (and many others) do allow you to subscribe to a podcast so that when you open the program it automatically downloads the most recent episode. That's podcasts in a nutshell.
