Signing off for the last time

Well, I would imagine that the official press release will be out soon, but I'm informally letting my friends on this board know that I have resigned my position with Dark Portal Games.

This was not an easy decision to reach. The last two years have been interesting to say the least, but I find that I no longer have the time to continue with my duties with the company. A year and a half ago I became a new father, and I've found it impossible to work full time, freelance write, run a business in my free time, and be a good father. The company will go forward without me, and I fully trust that they will keep their current publication schedule. I am stepping down willingly and without regret or hard feelings towards anyone involved with the company. They are all a great bunch of individuals, and I wish them well.

In addition to spending more time with my family, my future plans are to recommit myself to writing, mostly in this industry, for various publishers. I have already been in talks with various known publishers that are interested in utilizing my talents on upcoming projects. I'm not naming names at this point, but I might say something when plans firm up a bit. In addition to this, I'm considering launching a new website that will be game related. What it will be, I haven't yet decided.

Because I no longer represent the company, I will no longer be using the handle DPGDarrin on these boards. From this point forward, my handle will be "Baraendur," which is the name of the 4th castle in the article I wrote called "Every Home A Castle," which appeared in Dragon issue 295.

In addition to this, if anyone wishes to contact me, I can be reached by email at darrin_drader@hotmail.com. Anyone that was working with me on various projects should now coordinate with Tony Bounds, whose email is tbounds@darkportalgames.com.

Being involved in a fledgling publishing company has been an experience, and I'm glad that I did it, but the time has definitely come for me to move on and pursue other avenues. I appreciate everyone who has been enthusiastic about the products that I've been involved with, and I trust that enthusiasm will grow as Dark Portal Games expands into print.

Thanks for two great years to everyone that has been there along the way!

I'll miss you Darrin! You are/were one of the great guys involved in Arezok and Dark Portal. I hope you other ventures work out for you!

Woops, I guess I should have posted this before switching to my new ID. It is this ID you will not see again, not Baraendur

Nightfall, as always, thanks for the kind words.

Not a problem Darrin! :) You're still one of my favorites in the publishing world.

Well, I've appreciated your work thus far (death kniiiights...), not to mention your presence on the boards. I hope you find time to share with us some of your work in the future. Having a little one isn't quite the handful it seems at first once they acquire a little independance.

Best of luck in all your endeavors.

Best of Luck Darrin! Be sure to stay around these boards and check in now and again! :)

No worries. I'll still hang out here on the boards. You can't get rid of me that easy  In fact, I might be more willing to give critical opinions a little more often. No damning of other publisher's products since I'm from the school of thought that says that if you don't have anything nice to say about a product, you probably shouldn't say it, but I will be more likely to share thoughts on trends, respond to concerns about the industry or address gamers issues, etc.

Darrin,

I wish you luck. Though I am not one myself, being a new father is not easy, and it takes time to acclimate to a baby in the household.

Good luck, and see you around here!

Henry
