Simple 20 is go!

I honestly feel a bit sheepish about posting this here, since I'm not a commercial publisher, but here goes. . .

You can now download the Simple 20 system (a 100% OGC product) for free from Miscellaneous Debris or by right-clicking on the various links in my .sig (those take you right to the files, and bypass the rest of the MD site).

As a system, Simple 20 presents a low-powered alternative to existing OGC systems, with a focus on verisimilitude (to be clear, it's not a physics text book -- it's more concerned with the appearance of reality, rather than recreating it verbatim). It also has a few nods to Joseph Campbell and dramatic story structure in classic literature.

The core Simple 20 rules document includes all of the rules that you need to play, while the Appendices cover optional rules and the Conversion Guide covers usng material from your pre-existing OGC products in Simple 20.

Great stuff, James! Got a character sheet planned at some stage?

And I swear, verisimilitude has to be your favorite word. :)

Cheers,
Cam

Hey man, real interesting. I like it a bunch.

You might want to check out for comparison my dREAL, which has been bouncing around RPG.net real quiet-like for a few years now. The goal there was also verisimilitude, but in an explicitly modern/contemporary context. I think you'll be interested in how similar some of our design choices were. Some, of course, are quite different :-)

dREAL MAX (all added extras like feats and stuff)

Gotta love free stuff. I'll have to wait a few days to check these out as we've got a surprise birthday party for teh SO tomorrow.

Hail & Peace

I know of three alternate20 rules sets; True20, Perfect20, and Simple20. Of the three True20 is the closest to d20, with Simple20 the furthest from it. Get right down to it, Simple20 introduces enough changes that it qualifies as a whole new system. Perfect20 introduces the most changes while remaining pretty compatible with d20

Thanks! As for the character sheet, the first Simple 20 character sheet is being created for use with Fantasy Grounds by these folks. I haven't asked yet, but I assume that there will be a printable (i.e., offline) version, as well.

It's because of all the "i" love ;)

As I mention over on RPGBlog, this is intentional ;) That said, material from other OGL systems can still be used with Simple 20, but the trade-off is that it will be far less fantastic by default (also intentional).
