What happens to someone under the influence of a fly spell if he is knocked unconscious while aloft? Does he continue to float where he is? Or does he float (or fall) downwards? I'd say that the person continues to float wherever his position was.

Opinions?

I'd rule he floats down to the ground and collapses. The Fly spell, I believe, mentions that it requires the same effort as walking/running. Since an unconscious person falls prone, I figure a flying person would do the same.

I'm with Pendragon. Since moving with a Fly spell requires as much concentration as walking, and since having the spell's duration run out or the spell being dispelled causes the subject to float to the ground, I'd rule that, they descend slowly to the ground when knocked unconcious.

How about the person falling prone and continuing to float horizontally where he does? Since a flying person normally has to choose to descend in order to do so and uses up some of his movement in the round to do so, it seems that the natural state when benefiting from the spell is to retain one's position unless one makes an effort to change it.

I don't think falling prone is an issue while using a fly spell. I'd say you can fly standing up or lying down (like superman), whichever you like.

If you fall unconscious, though, I'd say you drift slowly to the ground, as if the spell had ended, solely because I think it would look silly with somebody lying around up in the air.
