Simpsons Comic Book Guy = Modern Day Gamer?

First Post
In the early 90's, during the heyday of 2nd Edition, I've had the pleasure of meeting quite a few gamers whom resembled the Simpsons Comic Book guy, in personality if not also appearance.

However, times change.

So, do you think this stereotype still holds true?

Well, yeah. That sterotype also brings to mind about 1/2 the heavy metal/death metal/alternative fans/musicians I've met. More than a few biker types I've known. Several friends and associates that are painters, carpenters, and steal mill workers. Not to mention the computer geek types. Of course, I doubt any of them were (to quote an episode I saw) 30+ year old virgins who live with their parents and walk around with gumbi bears stuck in their beard. So, I can't say that that sterrotype was ever "true", but that character does bring alot of people to mind. :)

Yep, I've met a fair share of gamers who resemble Comic Book Guy in both apperance and attitude. I've also met anime fans, Star Wars fans, CCG players, video gamers, trekkies, SCAers, and of course, comic book fans who reminded me of Comic Book Guy.

Comic Book Guy is basically an amalgamation of every overweight, pathetic, self-important, impossible-to-please, and socially inept fanboy you've ever met.

By the way, did anybody else laugh during last week's Simpsons when Mrs. Krabapule asked Comic Book Guy if he'd ever been married, and he responded by saying something like "Yes, but only in an online role-playing game"?

I know a guy that sounds just like him (both the voice and the words), especially when he starts talking about the virtues of GURPS.

If I close my eyes it is just eerie. :)
