So do I. I mentioned this above. Most myths have some basis in reality, and have since become fictionalized and exaggerated. It's not that I don't have experience with DMs who have a plot idea and railroad the players into it, or DMs who make the game all about their own NPCs and make the players feel like they're wasting their time, or DMs who bring in interpersonal issues and let them ruin the game. I've seen all of that. Honestly, I probably did some of those things as a beginner. And then I learned better, and all the problematic DMs were voted off the island, which I'm proposing is how things work in general: DMs don't pick themselves, they're picked by players. There is certainly such a thing as a tyrannical DM, but that does not make the Hussar-ian anathema to basic DMing authority any more reasonable. I don't blame the game for that kind of behavior (any more than I blame it for players' misbehavior, or for life in general). I can't know someone else's mind, but I can spot a contradiction. I also can't tell everyone how to DM, but I can quote the text that tells you what a DM is by the book (I can even read the 4e text that to my own surprise agrees with what I'm saying). It's not so much a question of me being right or wrong in an opinion as it is simply pointing out the facts. (My opinions regarding people's intent in these discussions are indeed my opinions, however). I don't know. I'd have to see it in context.
