And then George agreed with her that "it's not a horror film." Except for the concept of the dead returning to life, there's no real horror in the movie. There's a few shock moments when a zombie suddenly appears (this is actually overused in the film); there's a couple of short suspense scenes; but not a lot of horror. Heck, the humans (Wooley (the racist SWAT team guy); the biker gang) are scarier than the zombies. <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f642.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":)" title="Smile :)" data-smilie="1"data-shortname=":)" />
Yes, it's that over the top. Now, I wouldn't call that "bad" but you might. :) I was watching "Dawn of the Dead" last month (the original on DVD). I watched it a second time with the commentary by director George Romero, his wife and assistant director Christine Forrest Romero, and make-up/special effects guru Tom Savini. One intertesting thing Mrs. Romero mentioned was that she didn't consider this a horror film--she always thought of it as an action film with a lot of gore. (And she doesn't like gore.) And then George agreed with her that "it's not a horror film." Except for the concept of the dead returning to life, there's no real horror in the movie. There's a few shock moments when a zombie suddenly appears (this is actually overused in the film); there's a couple of short suspense scenes; but not a lot of horror. Heck, the humans (Wooley (the racist SWAT team guy); the biker gang) are scarier than the zombies. :)
