Size of a mount

I looked and looked again to find a rule about that, but did not get the answer I wanted.

Is there any penalty for riding a mount who is more than one size larger than your character ? Concrete example, does a halfling riding a horse suffer any penalty ?!?

I found in the PHB a penalty (-5 on ride check) for riding a mount not suitable for this purpose (they give example about two legged creature).

I also found in the DMG a rule specifiyng that a mount should be at least one size larger than the rider.

Beside that, I did not found any other rules applying...

Thanks for your help,

I'm not sure the Tarrasque would be a "willing mount". Neither I would try to tame it if I ever on its way.

I think it's kinda weird that you don't suffer any side effects for riding a way too big mount for you. But hey... My halfling outrider will be able to ride her warhorse when there is enough space and her riding dog inside the dungeon ;)

No weird at all - that's happen since ancient times with elephants. you don't ride it in the same way, of course, but that's the kind of complex detail we really don't need in D&D.
