Skeleton Key magnetic dungeon?

I was just thinking about ordering some of this to check it out. But, today I saw it at my local game store. I like it, its a good idea, and as much as I love my Dwarven Forge stuff, it's too unmanageable during a session.

My only hesitation is... $30 for a aprox 2' x 2' black board, and $12.95 for a set of magnetic tiles that was not much bigger than 8" x 11" when put together. I'd need at LEAST 3 sets. That's alot of $$$. (LOL, not compaired to Dwarven Forge, but nevermind that for right now.)

Anyone else have this? What do you think?

Also... How are you supposed to use the free PDF downloads? They would only be paper, and not magnetic. How could they possibly be compatible?

All that said, it looks great and i will probably buy some in the next month. Add to my Master Maze, GW Floorplans, Dungeon Quest, and Dwarven Forge systems. WILL NONE SATISFY ME?!?!?

I am interested in this magnetic dungeon stuff. Could you post a link to a site that sells it? I searched around, but i cant find it anywhere. Sounds much cheaper than Dwarven Forge. If I had loads of cash I would go with Dwarven Forge, but the problem with physical dungeon pieces is that you sometimes just can't get the right scenery no matter how many pieces you have. It always goes back to imagination in the end I suppose!

Yes, Dwarven Forge is pretty limited in the shapes you can make, unless of course, you design your locations around what can be done with it. The main two problems are -- The walls obscure the miniature figures if they are in anything but a huge room. You just cant see whats going on well. Second, being that it costs so much, you cannot have a whole lot of pieces. I DO have quite a bit. probably a total of 5 sets (at $65 to $110 each). Even so, you cannot have more than a couple of rooms put together at a time, so you would have to keep building and rebuilding during the game, and it becomes too much to keep up with.

The magnetic dungeon tiles are from Skeleton Key games. I believe thier website is www.skeletonkeygames.com. If thats not right it might just be skeletonkey.com in anycase, there a bunch of links to that site from EN World.

Download them, print them out, and attach them to magnetic tape. Rolls of magnetic tape can be bought in craft stores or any store like Wal-mart or K-mart in the craft department. It aslo makes a good base for minis.

Greetings all,

The initial $30 investment of the steel board can be avoided if you have a metal card table or a magnet receptive dry erase board. Once you have a metal board (or two) you don't need another. After that, I think the tile sets are a bargain. You can hand the pieces to the players as you describe the room and have them build it or have it set up ahead of time, whatever. They set up very fast with a little bit of prior planning.

Here is the full blurb from the site:

Adventure Tiles™ are magnetic terrain tiles for use with any role playing game. Each set contains tiles of various sizes that are divided into one-inch grids and laminated for their protection.

Combine Adventure Tiles™ with miniatures or other game pieces to set the stage for your role-playing encounters, or mix multiple sets and create a sprawling dungeon. Dry-erase markers can be used to highlight spell range, mark traps or make encounter notes.

Oh yea, the downloads can be cut out and held down where they meet the magnetic pieces, you can use magnetic tape or you can print them out on magnetic sheets (ink jet safe and made by Avery I think).

Thanks. Any plans on printing up the free PDF's and selling them like the other sets? I saw some that I'd like to have, but am too lazy to do it myself. :)

Its possible, we are considering a few new things for release along these lines.
