Sky High

I didn't realize it was on DVD yet--it's on my wife's Netflix queue instead of mine. :o. We've been wanting to watch this with the kids, though. Looks fun.

I've yet to see it but some friends mentioned it last week. It completely slipped under my radar and I heard absolutley no buzz about it until it was on DVD. Was this a direct to DVD release or what?

No, it was a theatrical release. I don't know how much it raked in, but it was in theatres for a while. I saw it when it came out, and reccomended it to one of the techs here at work, and he took his young daughter to see it. They both enjoyed it as well.

I will certainly say it doesn't match the Incredibles for quality (which is quite a thing to do), but overall it was a good movie. Keep in mind that it was a G movie for kids, and I think you can see some slack is deserved. I really enjoyed it with all the nods it gives to both TV Superhero references as well as subtle tie ins to the old Disney teen flicks that Russel was in (Strongest Man in the World etc). It was not particularly deep, but had a decent plot, acceptable effects, and a lot of funny lines. I will pick up the DVD one of these days since I do consider it a worthy film.

Though as an aside comment, I feel a need to start a thread as to what is the best superhero film of all time since someone here has made a case for the Incredibles. I consider that a worthy choice, though I would nominate Batman Begins instead myself.

Off to make a new thread.

For me, Spiderman 2 and X-Men 2 or X2 or whatever it was actually called, are in the running with those two as well.

Best Bloopers Ever!

I just saw the DVD version and I have to say, Sky High has the best bloopers ever!

Usually, bloopers consist of an actor who can't get a line. Although those bloopers are their (and the Kelly Preston one is better than most of this vein), there are several great ones.

Spoilers below

Linda Carter (who plays Principal Powers) slapping the butt of the two lead male characters, the Layla actress running and falling flat on her face on a gym floor, and the piece de resistance is the climatic Will Stronghold's flying scene, where his pants are (unbeknownst to him) around his ankles.

Really funny. I also caught a lot more jokes from Bruce Campbell, Dave Foley, and Kevin McDonald the second time around. It's worth it just to see these guys.

Mr. Boy: Do you remember when we used to play "Save the Citizen" with real citizens?
Medulla: (wistfully) oh yes, oh yes. . .

Or

Boomer: What if I told you that besides being a twin, she's an evil twin?
Medulla: Ah, this Friday?
Boomer: Medulla, you dog!
