One of the PCs in my modern-esq game has a daughter that he's never met, as the child (and mother) was taken from him before it was born. He was finally located the child, who is about 5 years old. He knows that a terrible evil is planned out for the kid several years down the line. Obviously he doesn't want to wait to rescue her, so he and the fellow cast memebers are trying now. The child is being held in a place not unlike a Hogwarts. It is a school for "the gifted" (not just sorcerers) and not just humans at all. Its a cross dimensional type of place that one needs a very special amulet to even think about getting close to the gateway of the school. The cast has, through much theft, money and coniving managed not only to get access to the school, but two of them have direct access to inside the school, posing as prospective parents who might want to send their kid there. Of the other threee players one will pretend to be the chaufer (the Dad PC) and the other two, once on school grounds by hiding in the trunk / back of the vehicle, will sneak about all covert like. I have a monster encounter planned for the sneaky guys, who will have to go around in a creepy wooded area. The characters will have only a few weapons between them, and will have minimal or no communication once seperated. I decided that the school COULD have better protection against this type of action by the PCs, but in all the time the school has existed, few "outside the circle" know of it, fewer could concieve of such a objective and none (from the arrogant mindset of the school board) could actually get a amulet. I like the idea of arrogance and power being exploited by the heroes to save the child. The "prospective parent PCs" are at the school, having been invited to come attend a social function: the students are participating in a ball to exercise their social/ettiquete lessons. So I will be looking to do some social interaction with these PCs. I was thinking that all of the chaufers will have aplace to eat and drink coffee and socialize, maybe play some dice games. So this PC will have to go hang out with them, or else he might be viewed with some suspiscion. Their objective is to see if they can find the kid, they know pretty much what she looks like from a few photos, and take her if they can. They are going to worry about "keeping her from the school" later. I decided that the kids will all have a anklet that prohibits them from leaving the extra-dimensional space of the school and thought a scene in which a child hurts their ankle dancing, might lead to the PCs discovery of the anklet and the fact that only a special device touched to the anklet will allow it to be removed. (I am pretty sure one of the PCs will get the idea to look into this, and will manage to get the device.) What I was hoping was that maybe you guys could give me some ideas on other encoutners or events that might be fun to throw into the mix.
